Rosberg’s career began in Kart racing. By the age of 17 Rosberg had graduated to Formula BMW racing, where he won a championship before his father’s influence helped him to secure a position in the Formula Three Euroseries.

After two seasons in Formula Three, Rosberg took the step up to the newly launched GP2 series in 2005, and proved his ability by becoming the first driver to win the GP2 Championship. His performances secured him a test session with Williams, and in 2006 he was confirmed as a driver for the Williams Formula One team.

Rosberg found the transition to Formula One racing tough, and finished in 17th position at the end of his first season. His performances improved considerably in 2007, as he consistently finished in the points to take 9th place in the Drivers’ Championship.

The 2008 season, however, proved to be Williams’ worst in decades. Crippled by an uncompetitive car, the best results Rosberg could manage were podium finishes at the Australian and Singapore Grand Prixs. These results proved to be the exception in a poor season for Rosberg, as he finished amongst the points in only three other races.

Towards the end of the 2009 racing season, Rosberg was offered the opportunity to join compatriot Michael Schumacher in an all-German driving team at Mercedes GP.
