Nico Hulkenberg made his racing debut at the age of 10, winning the German Junior Karting Championship on debut, and taking the German Kart Championship the following year. Success on the Karting circuit earned Hulkenberg an invitation to Formula racing in 2005, and the young German stepped up to the plate by winning the Formula BMW on debut.

In 2006 Hulkenberg made the transition to A1 Grand Prix racing. The young driver won the title for Germany almost single-handedly, taking 9 wins during the course of the season. A move back to Formula racing followed, and Hulkenberg spent the next two seasons racing in Formula 3.

Towards the end of 2008 Hulkenberg made his GP2 debut, and made an instant impression by taking pole position in his first race. The German went on to win his second race by a large margin. Hulkenberg went on to win the 2009 GP2 Championship in his first full season in the sport, whilst also working a test driver for the Williams F1 team.

In November 2009 the Williams team announced that Nico Hulkenberg would be replacing compatriot Nico Rosberg at Williams. Hulkenberg will race alongside former Brawn and Ferrari driver, Rubens Barichello, for Williams during the 2010 Formula One season.
