Kazuki Nakajima began his racing career in Japanese Kart Racing. It took the young Nakajima only three seasons to record his first championship win, thereby attracting the attention of Toyota, who selected him for their Young Drivers Program.

For the next four years Kazuki Nakajima raced in Japanese open wheel racing series, before consistently good results earned him a place in European Formula 3. Nakajima spent a year in Formula 3 before taking the step up to GP2, where he finished the season in 6th place.

While racing in GP2, Nakajima was recruited to Williams as a test driver for their Formula One car. Nakajima raced several times during 2007 and despite failing to finish most of his races, was assigned a permanent position as a driver in 2008.

Nakajima’s first full season in Formula One racing was not particularly successful. The Japanese driver failed to make the podium during the 2008 season and finished in the points in only 5 races. Despite achieving poorer results than teammate, Nico Rosberg, Nakajima was retained by Williams for the 2009 Formula One season.
