Adrian Sutil

Adrian Sutil is a German driver currently racing for the Force India racing team. Unlike many Formula One drivers who are born into racing families, Sutil comes from a family of musicians, and is a talented pianist in his own right.

Sutil started racing in karts at the age of 14. Four years later he signed on to the Swiss Formula Ford 1800 championship which he dominated, taking his first championship title before moving on to the Formula BMW series. Sutil spent a year in Formula BMW before taking the step up to Formula 3.

Adrian Sutil raced in Formula 3 from 2004 to 2006, competing in series in both Europe and Japan. During this period Sutil won the Japanese Formula 3 Championship and also raced for the German A1 Grand Prix team. In 2006 Sutil was confirmed as a test driver for the Midlands Formula One racing team.

Sutil was promoted to the position of racing driver in 2007, following the purchase of Midlands Racing by Spyker Cars. Sutil put in a number of impressive performances, given the fact that he was racing the least competitive car of the season. Sutil committed to Force India for the 2008 season after the Company’s takeover of the Spyker team.

Sutil’s first season as a driver for Force India saw him meet with minimal success as the Indian team struggled to make their car competitive. Sutil finished only 7 races during the 2008 season, never managing to break into the top 10 finishers in any race that season. 2009 saw Sutil score his first point in a Force India car at the Italian Grand Prix.
