The fracas over the use of rear diffusers by the likes of Brawn, Toyota and Williams proved to be so much hot air on Sunday as Red Bull, one of the teams not making use of the technology, took the top two positions at the China Grand Prix.

The result of the first Grand Prix of the year to go the full distance suggests that the title race may be even more open than had been previously anticipated, with at least 5 of the teams competing in the 2009 Formula One season capable of powering their drivers to the championship title.

Vetting Vettel
Sebastien Vettel proved that he’s not a one-hit-wonder at the 2009 China Grand Prix, once again demonstrating his ability to make the most of rainy conditions as he started the race in pole position and completed it at the top of the podium, gifting the Red Bull team its first Formula One win.

Whether Red Bull will be able to repeat this performance is a moot point. While the Brawn drivers rated the Red Bull cars as far faster than their own, the first real evidence of which team is fielding the fastest cars will come on Sunday on the dry, sun-drenched racetrack in Bahrain.

Testing Desert
The likes of Ferrari, Toyota and BMW have a slight edge over their competitors going into this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix, having performed pre-season testing on the Bahrain track.

Felipe Massa, who stands on the verge of a Bahrain Grand Prix hat-trick, will be eyeing an opportunity to help Ferrari take their first points of the season in a track that has been kind to him in the past.

Formula One Betting
Bookmakers are slightly less enthusiastic about Jenson Button’s prospects of achieving a win than they were last week, with the Briton paying above evens at many bookmakers.

Sebastien Vettel and Rubens Barichello offer great value in the outright bettering markets for the Bahrain Grand Prix, with both paying out over 5/1 at many bookmakers. Best value can be found by checking out Gambling Guru’s odds comparison table for the Bahrain Grand Prix.
