The Pertemps Handicap Hurdle Final is the last of a series of handicap races run during the national hunt season. The event is raced on the Cheltenham New Course over a distance of 3 miles.
In order to compete in the Pertemps Final Handicap Hurdle participants must be 5 years old or older, and must have qualified for the race in one of a series of pre Cheltenham Festival hurdle events.

The Handicap Hurdle Final replaced the George Duller Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in 1974.
The Handicap Hurdle Final tends to be a hit and miss affair for trainers. Only Jonjo O’Neill managed to achieve anything approaching a decent run of form in recent years.
While the runners participating in the race tend to be quality hurdlers, few go on to impress in some of the Cheltenham Festival’s more prestigious hurdle races.
