Festival defies gloom & doom

Posted on by sven

Fears that the economic climate would affect the 2009 Cheltenham Festival are proving groundless as over 10,000 Irish prepare to travel across the Irish Sea to attend the race meeting.

The number of Irish attending the event was expected to drop significantly due to a slowdown in the Emerald Isle, however the lure of watching Irish racehorses competing in the 26 race festival has proven to be stronger than expected.

The 2009 Cheltenham Festival is expected to sell out with just one day remaining until the first race of the meeting is run. According to festival organisers 220,000 of the 230,000 tickets available for the meeting have already been sold.

Betting on the 2009 Cheltenham Festival is expected to clear the 6 billion Euro mark, with hundreds of thousands of racing fans across the world likely to place money on the festival’s 26 races.
