David Pipe Profile

David Pipe is the son of legendary national hunt trainer Martin Pipe. Since inheriting his father’s training facilities Pipe has rapidly developed into a fine trainer in his own right. He is recognised as being one of England’s finest trainers for novice chases and bumpers.

Racing Profile:

David Pipe began his career as head trainer for the Pond House stables in 2006, when his father was forced to retire from the sport due to ill health. Pipe inherited world-class training facilities from his father, who had helped to revolutionise the way national hunt racing horses are trained.

Whilst Pipe is yet to consistently win big races at national hunt meetings, he has demonstrated a knack for winning those races disdained by some high profile trainers, and has an impressive winning record in novice events. Pipe also has a reputation for preparing rookie racehorses well for their national hunt debuts, with 1 in 4 of his debut entries successful at winning their races.

Achievements:

Trainers typically take up to a decade to register wins in major national hunt races. This has not been the case for David Pipe, who won the 2008 Grand National with Comply or Die during his third season at the helm of Pond House.

To his credit, Pipe has also achieved a number of Grade 1 race wins – the Ryanair Chase, Victor Chandler Chase and the Long Walk Hurdle. The quality of the racehorses in Pipe’s stables is improving continuously and has included a crop of top-class racehorses including Tamarinbleu, Our Vic and Osana.

Bio:

David Pipe currently resides at the Pond House training facilities in Somerset. Prior to taking over his father’s training facilities, Pipe was regarded as one of the finest Point-to-Point trainers in the United Kingdom.
