Racing Profile:

Barry Geraghty arrived on the Irish jumps racing scene in 1997 as a fresh-faced 18-year old rookie. Geraghty rode his first winner in January of that year, and by the end of the following season had notched up sufficient wins to claim his first Irish Champion Jockey title.

Geraghty’s racing career has been defined by his partnerships with three of the most impressive national hunt racehorses of recent years, Florida Pearl, Moscow Flyer and Kicking King. Geraghty has ridden for a number of top trainers, including Noel Meade and Thomas Taffe.


Barry Geraghty has won both of the most prestigious Grade 1 chases in national hunt racing. His most successful season to date was the 2002/2003-season, during which he partnered Moscow Flyer to victory in the Queen Mother Champion Chase, before winning the 2003 Grand National with Monty’s Pass.

In 2005 Geraghty achieved another impressive big-race double, by winning both of the feature steeplechases at the Cheltenham Festival, as Moscow Flyer won his second Queen Mother Champion Chase, and Kicking King claimed the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Geraghty has also achieved wins in the Hennessy Gold Cup and Punchestown Gold Cup.


Barry Geraghty was born in County Meath, Ireland on the 22nd of September 1979. Geraghty comes from a family with strong connections to national hunt racing. His father was an Irish amateur champion jockey, and both his brothers are also professional jockeys. Barry Geraghty’s brother, Ross, won the 2002 Irish Grand National on The Bunny Boiler.
