Breeders Cup Dirt Mile

The Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile is one of the premier events at the annual Breeders’ Cup Championship. First held in 2007, the race is primarily a stage for the talents of North American milers, as their European counterparts are usually aimed at the Breeders’ Cup Mile instead.

As the name implies, the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile is raced over a distance of 1 mile on dirt or synthetic tracks. Entry to the race is open to 3-year-old and above thoroughbreds, and the race is classified as a Group 1 weight-for-age handicap.

Thoroughbred racehorses can qualify automatically for the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile via a series of qualifiers, all of which take place on North American soil. These include the Salvator Mile, the San Diego Handicap, the Longacres Mile and the Spend A Buck Handicap.

Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile Betting

It is too early in the history of the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile to be able to identify major race trends. However, punters should be aware that backing the favourite hasn’t paid off in the race to date with no antepost favourite going on to win the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. This suggests that laying the favourite at Betfair may be an effective betting strategy for this race.
