Wales travel to England on Saturday in search of a Triple Crown and a win that would put them well on track for a grand slam title.
Wales and England have met eight times in the past five seasons. Wales has won four of these fixtures, while England won the other four. England has lost just one match at Twickenham during this period, losing to Wales on their way to the grand slam in 2008.
The two teams last met at Twickenham in August, when England just edged Wales by 4 points in a World Cup warm-up.
England aren’t having the best Six Nations, with luck helping them beat a stubborn Scotland at Murrayfield, and another fortuitous moment helping them to a victory over Italy in Rome after trailing at half time.
The side is showing its youth and inexperience, as well as the absence of a strong management figure, and lacks cohesion and structure in attack. The Wales defence won’t be as careless as those of Scotland or Italy, and the English are in for an uphill battle on their home turf.
Wales, meanwhile, looked like a championship winning unit when they put away Scotland. Johnathan Davies once again put his hand up as a likely Wales selection at midfield, and the sheer volume of talent in the squad has produced a side bursting with confidence and willing to play attacking rugby.
This side won’t be intimidated by playing England at Twickenham, and must relish the prospect of taking on a weakened England unit on their home turf. The side’s solid defence should be able to keep an ordinary England backline out, and England will have some tough questions to answer from Halfpenny, North and the other stars of the Welsh backline.
Bookies are playing it tight in the handicap betting markets, with bookies giving it just 4 points play in the handicap betting markets, with Wales at -3.5 points at 10/11 at Bet365.
This suggests the game is going to be a close one, and we agree that England won’t let it go by much if they lose.
Our England vs. Wales betting tip is to take a look at the anytime tryscorer markets at Paddy Power, where you can get top odds on Leigh Halfpenny and Johnathan Davies – two excellent candidates to cross the whitewash on Saturday.
