2011 Queen Anne Stakes Preview & Tips
The 2011 Royal Ascot meeting gets off to a pulsating start as a stellar field lines up for 1 mile Queen Anne Stakes. This is set to be a thrilling race as Group 1 stars Canford Cliffs and Goldikova go head to head.
2011 Queen Anne Stakes Race Favourites
1. Canford Cliffs
Canford Cliffs was one of the stars of the 2010 British racing season, winning the Irish 2,000 Guineas, St. James’s Palace Stakes and Sussex Stakes. He’s back in action after taking yet another Group 1 win in the Lockinge Stakes, and should be a formidable opponent at Ascot. Priced close to Evens as many bookies, he’s certainly worth a straight back bet.
2. Goldikova
Few horses have a resume to match that of French star, Goldikova. She’s won 16 Group 1 races in her glittering career, including three consecutive wins in the Breeders’ Cup Mile. She’s also the defending champion in the Queen Anne Stakes, and won’t easily make way for Canford Cliffs. Throw in the fact that Goldikova has already scored a Group 1 win in 2011, with a victory in the Prix d’Ispahan, and her 6/4 price at Boylesports becomes hard to resist.
3. Cape Blanco
Cape Blanco was the standout racehorse in Ireland last season, taking Group 1 wins in the Irish Derby and Irish Champion Stakes. He’s not been in quite as good form in 2011, with two 4th places to show from two races this season. He’s also not best known as a miler, preferring distances over 10 furlongs. At 15/1 he does offer value on each-way bets, but doesn’t look a serious contender for the win.
2011 Queen Anne Stakes Long Shots
Rio De La Plata has had some success in the Italian Group 1 scene, and is in decent form with three wins and two places from his last five races. However, he’s up against sterner opposition than the Italians have to offer at Ascot, and is only worth a look as an each way bet, with William Hill offering the top price of 14/1.
2011 Queen Anne Stakes Betting Tips
The Queen Anne Stakes looks to be a flat out duel between Goldikova and Canford Cliffs. We’re happy to put our money on Goldikova in this one – she’s an expert at handling different conditions and terrain, and a price over evens offers the best return in the field.
