2011 Melling Chase Preview & Tips
The Melling Chase traditionally serves as the sequel to Cheltenham’s Queen Mother Champion Chase, and will serve up a fascinating renewal in 2011 as a top class field goes in search of glory in this 2 mile 4 furlong chase.
2011 Melling Chase Race Favourites
1. Albertas Run
With a second win in the 2011 Rynair Chase beneath the belt, Albertas Run heads the betting for the 2011 Melling Chase. This horse is improving with age, and looks a strong contender to defend the Melling Chase title this year. He’s priced around 7/2 by bookies, out of range of each-way puntes, but nevertheless a tempting option for a straight back bet.
2. Kalahari King
Kalahari King is next in line for the Melling Chase title, having finished second to Albertas Run in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham. Since winning the Maghull Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham, Kalahari King has struggled to get top results, and he looks a bit out of place ahead of Master Minded in the betting. At a price of 7/2, he looks a great lay betting opportunity in a classy field.
3. Master Minded
Master Minded has fallen from grace since finishing a dismal 8th in the Queen Mother Champion Chase. However, this horse still has class to burn, and if he gets into his rhythm should easily have the beating of the top two in the betting. He’s never run in the Melling Chase, and with his 170+ rating and Ruby Walsh onboard should be a great each-way option at odds of 5/1 at Betfair.
2011 Melling Chase Long Shots
Somersby ran a disappointing race in the 2011 Queen Mother Champion Chase, reversing the form that saw him finish 2nd in the Victory Chandler Chase and 3rd in the Tingle Creek Chase earlier in the season. If the ground suits him on Friday, he’s going to be a threat, and at a price of 11/2 at Paddy Power he’s easily the best value each-way bet in the field.
2011 Melling Chase Betting Tips
Master Minded is way too good to be priced above 4/1 in the betting. Take advantage of this lapse and put an each-way bet on the classy horse, and consider a look at Somersby to also put in an improved performance at Aintree in the 2011 Melling Chase.
