2011 King’s Stand Stakes Preview & Tips
The 2011 King’s Stand Stakes keeps the Group 1 action going with one of the meeting’s highest rated sprints. Always an open, unpredictable race, the King’s Stand Stakes will see a huge field take on the 5f furlong scramble to the finishing post.
2011 King’s Stand Stakes Race Favourites
1. Star Witness
Star Witness is trading fairly short for Ascot’s biggest cavalry charge. He’s taken two wins and a place from three starts, but finished 7th last time out. Star Witness is not a 5 furlong specialist, and has run over this distance just once in a race. Trading at around 7/1 he looks like a great lay betting option.
2. Sole Power
Nunthorpe Stakes winner, Sole Power, has a longer track record to work off, and extensive experience over 5 furlongs. He has a knack for finding the top three with two wins, a place and three shows from his twelve starts. He’s also in sharp form, coming into the 2011 King’s Stand Stakes on the back of a victory over the talented Kingsgate Native in the Group 2 Temple Stakes in May. Priced around 10/1 at many bookies he’s the best each-way prospect in the field.
3. Lady of the Desert
Lady of the Desert has been a strong performer in Group 2 and Group 3 races. The 4-year-old has taken four wins, two places and two shows from her eleven starts, and is in decent enough form with a win and a place from her last two starts. While she does have an early win over 5 furlongs to her credit, she hasn’t won over this distance for two seasons, and looks more comfortable over distances closer to a mile. Priced over 10/1 at many bookies, she may be worth a speculative each-way punt.
2011 King’s Stand Stakes Long Shots
Bewitched is the form horse in the field with three wins from her last three starts. While most of her success has been at Group 3 level, and she’s yet to be tested against top class opposition, her price of 20/1 means she just needs to place to pay out a good return on each-way bets.
