2011 Champion Stakes Preview & Tips

Posted on by editor

The 2011 Champion Stakes has drawn an intriguing field, with an eclectic selection of the UK’s top middle distance racehorses on display on Saturday.

2011 Champion Stakes Race Favourites

1. So You Think
Star Irish racehorse, So You Think, leads the pack in the betting markets. With wins in the Tattersalls Gold Cup and Irish Champion Stakes he’s been one of the top racehorses in Ireland this season, and he’s also done his bit in the UK, winning the Group 1 Coral Eclipse Stakes at Sandown last month. Bookies have him priced just in range of an each-wat punt at 9/2.

2. Midday
Veteran filly, Midday, just keeps going. She pulled off a win at the 2011 Nassau Stakes, adding that victory to second places in the International Stakes, Pretty Polly Stakes and the Coronation Stakes. This is likely to be her last outing, and given her form this season she looks a decent each-way option at odds of 7/1.

3. Nathaniel
Nathaniel came out of nowhere to win the UK’s richest race in July, winning the 2011 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. This is his first race back in action since that day, and he may be the entry to rival So You Think in this race. There’s little doubt that he’s a rapid improver, and at a price of 13/2 offers value on each-way bets.

2011 Champion Stakes Long Shots

Veteran, Twice Over, has hit some good late season form, following a Group 2 win up with a victory in the 2011 International Stakes – where he beat Midday by 3/4 of a length. With 5 Group 1s already to his name, Twice Over is more than capable of challenging for top honours in this race, and offers solid value at a price of 9/1.

2011 Champion Stakes Betting Tips

We have our eyes on Nathaniel for this race. His win in the 2011 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes suggests that he isn’t a talent that can be easily overlooked, and his price means he’ll return a profit even if he only manages a place in this race.
