Wales vs. Namibia Preview & Tips
Wales has a golden opportunity to step up a gear when it takes on Namibia this weekend. A big win will put Wales firmly on track for a place in the 2011 Rugby World Cup quarterfinals.
Wales vs. Namibia Trends Analysis
Wales has played Namibia just three times in the past, and not once in the last decade. The Welsh have won all three of these encounters.
Wales made a few hearts in the valleys skip a beat when they engineered a come-from-behind victory against Samoa in the second round.
However, that win will give Wales great confidence going forward in the tournament, and the return to form of the injury prone Leigh Halfpenny, and the return from injury of Stephen Jones, suggests that Wales will only get better as the tournament continues.
Namibia, however, are serving as the whipping boys in the toughest pool in the World Cup. The weakest team at the tournament has only had matches against top tier nations, and has had short turnaround times on its games.
This has resulted in three hidings, the most recent of which saw the Sprinboks put a whopping 87 points past the Namibians in what looked like a practise match against a high-school side.
Wales vs. Namibia Betting Tips
Wales will want to outdo the Sprinboks by putting more points past Namibia in this match. They certainly have the backline to accomplish this, and will run riot if given half a chance.
Wales has been handed a -54 handicap for this match. Given that both Fiji and Samoa put 49 points past the Namibians, and the fact that Namibia has had just a few days to recover from its annihilation at the hands of South Africa, we do expect Wales to be able to go one try better and close out the African team with 55+ points.
