2011 Ribblesdale Stakes Preview & Tips

Posted on by editor

It’s the fillies’ turn in the second race on Lady’s Day at the 2011 Royal Ascot meeting, with the running of the 1 mile 4 furlong Ribblesdale Stakes, which has drawn just a dozen runners this season.

2011 Ribblesdale Stakes Race Favourites

1. Banimpire
Banimpire has had some good success in her native Ireland this season, winning five Group 3s and placing in one. She failed at the Irish 1,000 Guineas, coming 5th, but tends to run over longer distances and couldn’t pace herself over a mile. Her last win came over a distance of 1 mile 4 furlongs, and she looks a steal at odds of 5/2 at Paddy Power.

2. Rumh
Rumh’s a rare German born entry, who’s won two and placed in one of his three starts this season. She wasn’t terribly impressive as a 2-year-old but looks to be improving fast. One issue may be her inexperience over distances over 10 furlongs as she has won just one race over this distance and may struggle with the extra 2 furlongs in the Ribblesdale Stakes. Boylesports has her at 4/1, which looks like an option for an each-way punt.

3. Dorcas Lane
Dorcas Lane is another filly with two wins and two places from her four starts. Like Rumh, she’s never travelled further than 10 furlongs in a race, and there’s no telling how she’ll handle the extra distance in the Ribblesdale Stakes. Bookies have her at 7/1, but there are other horses that could easily place her instead of her.

2011 Ribblesdale Stakes Long Shots

Zain Al Bodan came into the 2011 Epsom Oaks with three wins from three starts, but managed only a 9th place finish at Newmarket. She’s a better filly than that race suggests, and won her previous race by 6 lengths. If she’s on form on Thursday she’s in with a real chance of winning, and looks a good option for a place or each-way bet at 9/1 at Ladbrokes.

2011 Ribblesdale Stakes Betting Tips

Zain Al Bodan looks to be far overpriced in this race, at 9/1. While she didn’t do well in her recent Group 1, she’s excelled in races of similar quality to the Ribblesdale Stakes, and our 2011 Ribblesdale Stakes betting tip is to back her each-way at Ladbrokes.
