2011 Queen Mary Stakes Preview & Tips
The 2011 Queen Mary Stakes is the most prestigious 2 year old fillies’ sprint at the Royal Meeting. Just over a dozen entries will line up for the penultimate race of the day, headed by market leader Shumoos.
2011 Queen Mary Stakes Race Favourites
1. Shumoos
Shumoos comes into the 2011 Queen Mary Stakes with just one win, winning a 5 furlong sprint at Haydock in May. What punters will zero in on is the fact that she beat Tuesday’s Windsor Castle Stakes winner, Frederick Engels, by 4.5 lengths in that race. At a price of 5/4 at Bet365 she’ll have strong backing on Wednesday.
2. Gypsy Robin
Gypsy Robin is another one win wonder. This juvenile took a win over a 10 strong field in the United States in April. There’s not much to indicate how she’ll fare against this field, and she’s trading a distant 8/1 at most bookies.
3. Fire Lily
Fire Lily has double the experience of the first two in the betting, with a place and a win in two races to her credit. She’s done all her racing in Ireland, and is something of an unknown quantity despite her relatively long career. With a place in her most recent outing, there’s little to suggest that she merits and each way punt at 10/1.
2011 Queen Mary Stakes Long Shots
We wouldn’t be surprised to see a surprise in the 2011 Queen Mary Stakes. Vocational is the most experienced horse in the field, with three races that have produced a single win and two places. While these results are not sensational, he’s decent each way value at odds of 16/1 at Paddy Power.
