2011 King George V Stakes Preview & Tips
The 2011 Ascot Meeting Ladies’ Day ends with a 1 mile 4 furlong handicap that will test the endurance of a field of twenty or so handicap stayers.
2011 King George V Stakes Race Favourites
1. Census
Census heads the betting for the 2011 King George V Stakes. He’s won his last two races after starting as favourite, and was carrying more in each case then he’ll have onboard on Thursday. William Hill has him trading at 5/1 at present, which looks like really good value on a quality racehorse.
2. Purification
In three starts Purification has won once and placed once, finishing out of the places only in his first ever race. Like the favourite, he’ll be travelling a lot lighter than he did in his last two races, and achieved his only win over 10 furlongs. What’s more William Hill has him priced at 6/1 – another good each-way option.
3. Apache
Apache is an Irish raider who has never finished outside the places in his career, and produced his first win in his most recent race. Unlike the top two he’s carrying well more than he’s used to at Ascot on Thursday, but given that he’s a proven stayer with a win over 12 furlongs, he may still do it. Most bookies have him priced at around 6/1 – low enough for a lay bet.
2011 King George V Stakes Long Shots
Eternal Heart is one of the standout horses in the field. While he’s done most of his racing in Scotland, his results have turned heads, and he has three wins from his last three races. He’s a proven stayer with these wins coming over 12-14 furlongs, and produced an impressive win carrying 9-7 in his second last race after starting as favourite. Form like this is hard to ignore at a price of 14/1 at William Hill.
