2011 Jersey Stakes Preview & Tips
The Group 3 Jersey Stakes gets the action underway on the second day of the 2011 Royal Meeting, as a small field sets off on this 7 furlong dash.
2011 Jersey Stakes Race Favourites
1. Codemaster
Codemaster has picked up some good results in Listed races, with two wins and two second places, and takes the step up to Group racing in the Jersey Stakes. He’s done most of his racing over 6 furlongs, but finished first in a 7 furlong event last time out. He’d trading just out of range of a bankable each-way bet, and may be worth a look for a straight back bet.
2. Fury
Fury looked impressive in October last year when he beat a field of 27 to take the Tattersalls Millions 2YO Trophy. He looked somewhat less impressive in his first Group 1 race, finishing 5th in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket. He’s up against a far less classy field in this one, and at a price of 4/1 at William Hill will return bets on each-way punts.
3. Havane Smoker
Havane Smoker has experience running in French Group races, and has done well enough without taking a win. He finished a credible second in the Group 1 Poule de Essai des Poulains at Longchamps in his last outing, and certainly looks like he has the class to win this race. At a price of 9/2 at Paddy Power he’s well worth a look.
2011 Jersey Stakes Long Shots
Splash Point has a solid record coming into the 2011 Jersey Stakes. He’s finished outside the places just once in his career, when he found the UAE Derby a bit long for his liking. However, his win in the UAE 2,000 Guineas suggests he has class to burn, and if he takes to the turf at Ascot he could surprise at a generous price of 25/1.
2011 Jersey Stakes Betting Tips
Yesterday we scored big off Zoffany in the St James’s Palace Stakes, and we have a feeling that Splash Point may do us the same favour in the Jersey Stakes. At 25/1 he’s a great each-way option, and if he comes home first he’ll return handsomely.
