2011 Coventry Stakes Preview & Tips
The Coventry Stakes is the second classy sprint on the card for the first day of the Royal meeting. This Group 2 sprint features some of the world’s most impressive 2-year-old talent competing in a 6 furlong charge for the finishing post.
2011 Coventry Stakes Race Favourites
1. Power
Power could be a horse to watch next season, with two wins from his two races over the flat. He’s done most of his racing in Ireland, and there’s no telling how he’ll take to the Ascot turf. Bookies have him underpriced at 4/1, and he looks a good lay bet in this unpredictable race.
2. Mezmaar
Mezmaar has raced once and one once, making it hard to determine how he’ll do in a Group race against a big field. His backers seem to believe he’s the business, and at a best price of 7/1 at Paddy Power he may be worth a small each-way punt.
3. Gatepost
Gatepost is another entry with two wins from two races. Unlike Power he’s taken wins in the UK, and conditions may give him the slightest of edges on Tuesday. It’s too soon to tell whether he’s a champion in the making and we’d leave off a back bet until he’s proven himself.
2011 Coventry Stakes Long Shots
Any number of outsiders could take this race, with virtually every horse in the field improving as it matures. One horse with a slightly longer track record to work off is Irish raider, Bannock. He’s raced four times with two wins and two places. At a price of 20/1 at totesport, he could be worth an each-way punt.
2011 Coventry Stakes Betting Tips
Sprints for 2-year-olds is the closest racing gets to a lottery. Our advice is to head to Betfair and lay the favourite in this race. Your other option is to put small each-way bets on a selection of horses priced over 50/1 and gamble on one of them coming home with a place.
