Liverpool has a golden opportunity to get an away win on Thursday when the club travels to the DW Stadium to take on relegation zone residents, Wigan Athletic, in a Premiership clash.
Liverpool has won five of its last ten matches against Wigan, while four matches ended in draws and a single match went the way of Wigan. Two of Liverpool’s wins were achieved at the DW Stadium.
Liverpool’s last trip to Wigan produced a 1-1 draw.
Wigan has played better in recent weeks than it’s Premiership standing suggests. The club has won two, drawn two and lost one of its last five matches, drawing with Chelsea in its most recent fixture – a run of recent results that would put several higher placed clubs to shame.
Wigan’s strikers have been in decent shape in recent weeks, putting away 8 goals in five games. Defence has had one or two major lapses, letting in 10 goals in five games.
Liverpool is also showing some good form, with three wins, a draw and a defeat in its last five matches. The Reds are closing in on the top four, but are still missing the presence of the injured Stephen Gerrard in the midfield.
Gerrard’s absence is obvious when you look at Liverpool’s accomplishments up front. The Reds have scored 6 goals in their last five games, leaving it to the defence to win matches. And the defence has stepped up to the plate, letting in just 2 goals in 5 matches for the best defensive record in the Premiership over recent weeks.
Home advantage is with Wigan in this one, and the club probably fancies its chances of rolling over Liverpool at the DW Stadium.
However, the tight Liverpool defence is going to take some cracking for Wigan. While Liverpool’s own attack is not particularly impressive, the Reds should be able to find their way past a defence that has been letting in 2 goals a game for the past five matches.
Liverpool should win this match, but a draw isn’t out the question. While a back bet on the Reds is a decent option, our Wigan vs. Liverpool betting tip is to go with a lay bet on Wigan to earn payouts on both the draw and the Liverpool win.
