Newcastle United has a good opportunity to reverse its poor run of form this weekend when it hosts Swansea at St. James’s Park.
Swansea and Newcastle have met just twice in the past, with both of these encounters taking place in the 2009-10 Championship season. Newcastle beat Swansea 3-0 when the Welsh side visited the Magpies, while Newcastle’s away tie produced a 1-1 draw.
Newcastle’s season has headed south in recent weeks, with just one win from the last five matches, and three losses and a draw in the last four. These fixtures have been fairly tough, with the Magpies facing Man City, Man United and Chelsea in consecutive fixtures.
Newcastle has put away a disappointing 6 goals in its last five matches. While attack has been nothing to write home about, defence has been the club’s biggest problem, with 12 goals conceded in the same period.
Swansea hasn’t been having an easy time of it either, drawing two, losing two and winning just one of its last five matches. Like Newcastle, Swansea has had more than its fair share of tough fixtures, facing Man United and Liverpool during this period.
After failing to score once in three fixtures, Swansea has scored 4 goals in its last two, leaving the club with a below-par average over the last five matches. Defence has been excellent, maintaining three clean sheets, and conceding 5 goals in its lats five matches, 4 of which were scored in a freakish defeat to Blackburn.
Newcastle will be struggling with confidence after its recent spate of defeats. The club’s defence will need to be addressed this weekend if the fairly meek Swansea attack is to be kept out.
Newcastle is overdue a turnaround however and still has a strong home record of just one loss this season to draw inspiration from. The club is certainly capable of more than we’ve seen from it in the past few weeks, and our Newcastle United vs Swansea betting tip is therefore to go with a back bet on Newcastle winning this match at the best odds you can find.
