Liverpool has a chance to get back within range of the Premiership top four this weekend when it hosts QPR at Anfield.
Saturday’s match will mark the first occasion since 1996 that Liverpool has played QPR. The last time Liverpool and QPR met, in February of 1996, it was Liverpool who won 2-1.
Liverpool can’t seem to find consistency this season. After securing a second consecutive away win over Chelsea in as many weeks in the League Cup last week, the Reds stumbled to a 1-0 away defeat to Fulham, and now find themselves with two wins, two draws and a loss from their last five matches.
Liverpool’s problems begin up front, where the club’s strikers have scored just 5 goals in five matches, and failed to score in two of these. Defence has come to the side’s rescue, saving the day on more than one occassion, and letting in just 3 goals in five games.
QPR, meanwhile, are starting an inexorable slide down the Premiership table following their bright early-season showing. The side has lost three, won one and drawn one of its last five matches. There isn’t much light at the end of the tunnel for the side either, with its match against Liverpool followed by a visit from Manchester United.
QPR has scored a total of 8 goals in its last five matches. This respectable scoring rate has been undermined by some very poor defensive performances, with QPR letting in 11 goals during the same time.
Liverpool can’t afford to botch this match. A loss will make the way back into the top four very difficult, particularly with two consecutive away games coming up in the next few weeks.
QPR, meanwhile, need to do something about their defence to survive this fixture. They’re up against a Liverpool attack that is struggling to find rhythm, and could have it in them to pull off the draw on Saturday.
These two teams are going to need to feel each other out in the early stages of the game, and defence may dominate this encounter as both try avoid leaving the fixture with no points. Our Liverpool vs QPR betting tip is therefore to take a straight back bet on under 2.75 goals being scored in the over/under goals market.
