Chelsea hosts Manchester City in the Premiership highlight of the week on Monday. A win in this match would give Man City a massive boost in their hunt for the Premiership title, while a Chelsea win would put them back in contention for the title.
Chelsea have won seven of their last ten encounters with Man City, losing one home game against City in the process. Manchester City have beaten Chelsea three times during this period, with their best result coming during the 09-10 season when they thumped Chelsea 4-2 at Stamford Bridge.
Man City’s last trip to Chelsea saw the Blues avenge their earlier defeat with a 2-0 win.
Chelsea has pulled back some form over the last couple of weeks, with three wins and two losses from five games. After beating Newcastle 3-0 away last weekend, Chelsea’s strikers once again produced the goods against Valencia in the midweek, defeating Valencia 3-0 to progress to the knockout rounds of the Champions League.
The return to form of Chelsea’s strikers sees the team with a haul of 10 goals from their last five matches. Defence has tightened up too, with 4 goals conceded in the same period, and three clean sheets from five games.
Manchester City also comes into this match on the back of a win in Europe, albeit the club’s 2-0 defeat of Bayern Munich was not enough to keep them afloat in the Champions League. City now has three wins, a draw and a single loss to show for its last five matches and remains unbeaten in the Premier League this season.
Manchester City has scored 11 goals in its last five matches. Defence has been solid, letting in 4 goals during the same period and recording two clean sheets against top ranked opposition.
Monday’s match is set to be a cracker, and Chelsea will be going flat out to end Man City’s unbeaten run. However, City come into this match knowing that both Arsenal and Liverpool have pulled off away wins at Stamford Bridge in October and November.
This, combined with the side’s form and a victory over Germany’s top club in the Champions League this week, should give Man City all the confidence it needs to take a valuable away win.
While City looks like the club that should edge this, we’re sitting on the fence as far as the result is concerned. Our money is instead going on the Over/Under goals market. Given that Chelsea and City have scored a combined total of 21 goals in their last five matches, letting in 8 during this time, we get the feeling we’re in for a 3+ goal game.
Our Chelsea vs Man City betting tip is therefore to take a straight back bet on over 2.75 goals being scored in this match.
