Liverpool travels to the Reebok Stadium on Saturday to take on Bolton as they look to secure their exit from the relegation zone.
Liverpool hasn’t given Bolton half a glimpse of a win in their last ten meetings, taking ten wins from ten matches and scoring 3 or more goals against Bolton in seven of these. Bolton’s best result against Liverpool during this period was a 1-0 defeat in 2010.
This also happened to be Liverpool’s most recent trip to Bolton – a match that was played when Bolton was performing significantly better in the Premiership.
Bolton’s been showing some signs of life in recent weeks, with two wins, two draws and a single defeat on record for their last five matches. However, these results are somewhat skewed by an FA Cup tie against League Two side, Macclesfield Town, which Bolton eventually settled in a replay this week.
Bolton has put away 7 goals in five matches, with four of these racked up against Macclesfield. Defence hasn’t been the worst in the Premiership, but hasn’t particularly impressed either, with 6 goals conceded during this time.
Liverpool’s in decent shape, meanwhile, with three wins, a draw and a single defeat on record for their last five matches. The Reds have achieved victories over both Newcastle and Man City during this time, before grinding to a 0-0 draw against Stoke City on the weekend.
Liverpool have scored 9 goals in their last five matches, and a more modest 4 in four matches – not counting their 5-1 win over Oldham in the FA Cup. Defence has let in 5 goals during this time, maintaining 2 clean sheets.
Bolton don’t have much going for them in this match in terms of a track record, having last beaten Liverpool in 2006. However, they’ve showed signs of improvement in recent weeks and will have home support to help them along.
Liverpool’s strikers aren’t in top gear, their demolition of Oldham not withstanding. However, they have a solid defence that should be good enough to keep Bolton out the game.
Our feeling is that Liverpool has the momentum to win this. It may not be a thrashing, but our Bolton vs. Liverpool betting tip is to take a straight back bet on Liverpool to win this match.
