The second of this weekend’s FA Cup semifinals sees Chelsea take on Manchester City in a battle between the 2nd and 3rd placed teams in the Premier League. With the winner facing a relatively easy final encounter with either Millwall or Wigan, this match is likely to determine which side lifts the FA Cup in 2013.
Manchester City will hold no fear of Chelsea coming into this match. Chelsea have won just one of their last five encounters, while City have taken three wins and one match produced a draw.
City’s last visit to London to play Chelsea resulted in a goalless draw, however, the club has achieved a win at Stamford Bridge recently, beating Chelsea 3-2 in the Community Shield at the start of the 2012-13 season.
Following an upset defeat at Southampton in the Premier League, Chelsea have been building a head of steam in recent weeks, and come into this match on the back of three consecutive wins, starting with their 1-0 win over Manchester United in the FA Cup on the 1st of April.
The Blues forwards are on song, having scored 9 goals in their last five matches. Defence has done a reasonable job, conceding 4 goals during the same period. A plus for the side is Fernando Torres recent return to form, with the Spanish striker scoring twice for Chelsea against Rubin Kazan in the Europa League last week.
Manchester City are also in good shape, with four wins and defeat to Everton to show for their last five games. City are on a high coming into this fixture, having achieved their second successive away win against Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend.
The City strikers are the best in the top flight at the moment, having scored 13 goals in five games. Carlos Tevez is in devastating form, and has scored 5 goals in the last five games, while Sergio Aguero made a return to form on the weekend when he scored against United.
City have conceded just 3 goals in their last five matches, maintaining three clean sheets in the process.
Any encounter between these two sides is going to be tough to call. However, the stats suggest that City has the edge coming into this match.
The club’s strikers are in better form, the defence looks to be in better shape than Chelsea’s, and they have no problems with getting results in London. They’ll also have confidence in their ability to win the big games following their victory over United.
We’re therefore going with a straight back bet on Manchester City for our 2013 FA Cup semifinal betting tip for this match.
