2011 Ryanair Chase Preview & Tips

Posted on by gambling guru

The Ryanair Chase is the Group 1 gambit on day three of the 2011 Cheltenham Festival. Several familiar faces line up for this classy 2 mile 5 furlong renewal.

2011 Ryanair Chase Race Favourites

1. Poquelin
Poquelin has been there or thereabouts in several high profile chases, finishing second to Monet’s Garden in the 2010 Ryanair Chase before another 2nd place in the Grade 2 Old Roan Chase. In 13 chases he’s won 5 and finished with a show in 3, but has had the best results in handicaps. Trading beyond reach of an each way bet at 11/4, we say lay him low.

2. Kalahari King
After a 2nd place in the Arkle in 2009 and a 3rd place in the Queen Mother Champion Chase in 2010, Kalahari King is gunning for his first Festival win on Thursday. This horse is yet to win this season, but did finish 4th in the Grade 1 Victor Chandler Chase at his last outing. All told a win in this race looks a big ask for Kalahari King, and you’re fairly safe laying him at around 5/1.

3. Somersby
Somersby is the most consistent of the top three. In 7 chases he’s never finished outside the top three, winning two races in the process. In fact this horse has finished outside the top three just once in his career, finishing 4th in a hurdle in 2008. This kind of consistent record makes his 6/1 odds at Paddy Power look very attractive indeed.

2011 Ryanair Chase Long Shots

2007 Queen Mother Champion Chase winner, Voy Por Ustedes, has fallen from those great heights, but is still a classy horse. He finished 5th in the Ryanair Chase in 2010, but at the age of 10 could have one big race left in him. At odds of 14/1 at Paddy Power, and taking on a small field, he could be value on a small each way punt.

2011 Ryanair Chase Betting Tips

We really like the look of Somersby in the 2011 Ryanair Chase. Priced high enough for each-way bets, and with a good record in decent races, the each-way bet on Somersby is our 2011 Ryanair Chase betting tip.
