The finest 2 miler in recent memory is back in action at the 2011 Cheltenham Festival as he looks to win back the Queen Mother Champion Chase and win his third title the 2 mile feature race.
1. Master Minded
Despite a bad day at the office at the 2010 Cheltenham Festival, when he lost his Champion Chase title, Master Minded begins the 2011 renewal as the favourite to win his third title. This classy horse has been back in top form with Grade 1 wins in the Tingle Creek Chase and Victor Chandler Chase this season, along with a Grade 2 win in the Amlin 1965 Chase. While the horse that beat him in 2010, Big Zeb, did not compete in any of these races, Mater Minded has done enough to convince punters that he’s a solid bet for the Festival, and is trading at odds of 11/4 at Ladbrokes.
2. Big Zeb
Reigning champion, Big Zeb, is also in decent form coming into the 2011 Queen Mother Champion Chase, with two wins and a second place from his last three starts. He’s done all his racing in Ireland since winning at Cheltenham last year, so there’s no telling how he’ll shape up against Master Minded in the renewal. At a best price of 3/1 at Betfred, he’s going to have plenty of support in the shape of straight back bets.
3. Woolcombe Folly
Paul Nicholls’ Woolcombe Folly completes the top three. This horse has won four out five starts over fences but has never taken horses of the quality of Master Minded and Big Zeb. His price and place in the betting look to be on the speculative side, and we can’t see him troubling the top two in the betting for this race.
There’s no question that Master Minded and Big Zeb are the stars of the show in the 2011 Queen Mother Champion Chase, but there’s value to be had in predicting who will take third. Our eye is on Golden Silver, who has won ten out of twenty four starts over fences and placed in another six. He’s also won his last three races, with most of his racing done in Ireland. He finished 6th in the Champion Chase in 2010, but looks like he’s come on in the last year.
We like the look of Big Zeb and Master Minded for this race, and our 2011 Queen Mother Champion Chase betting tip is to go with a forecast bet on these two finishing 1st and 2nd in any order at Bet365 – a bet that’s only available on race day, but that will offer tremendous value on this race.
