2011 National Hunt Chase Challenge Cup Preview & Tips
One of the long-distance highlights of the Cheltenham Festival gets the action underway on day two, with the running of the 2011 National Hunt Chase Challenge Cup.
2011 National Hunt Chase Challenge Cup Race Favourites
1. Alfa Beat
Alfa Beat is top of the pops in this race, trading high enough for an each-way punt at most bookies. This horse has won four chases on the trot, and five races in a row. While he’s not the highest rated horse you’ll find at the festival, his strong recent form suggests that he really is a decent option for an each-way bet.
2. Chicago Grey
In nine stars over fences Chicago Grey has won three and placed four times. He’s also no stranger to Cheltenham, taking a win and a second there in his last four starts. However, he was also a faller at Cheltenham in November, and may struggle to deal with the large field on Wednesday. He’s best priced at 13/2 at Ladbrokes.
3. Beshabar
Beshabar is the best of the rest. He’s inexperienced over fences, having raced in just three chases, taking one win in the process. His place in the betting is based on a decent run of form in recent races, where he three wins from four starts. Trading as high as 9/1 at William Hill, he’s sure to have his share of each-way backers.
2011 National Hunt Chase Challenge Cup Long Shots
This race is wide open, and don’t be surprised if a horse from outside the top three takes it. Arabella Boy looks a value bet for this race, with two wins and two places from four starts over fences. Combine this with good recent form (he’s finished in the top three in his last five races) and odds of 20/1 at William Hill and you have a bankable long shot.
