The Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle is the conditional jockets highlight of the 2011 Cheltenham Festival, and something of a lottery for punters.

1. Sir Des Champs
Sir Des Champs is expected to be the first number up. He’s run two hurdles races and won both – once in France and once in Ireland. How he’ll do in a big field is anyone’s guess, but he’ll offer his backers value at a best price of 6/1 at Bet365.
2. Alarazi
Alarazi has more experience with two wins, two places and a show from seven races over hurdles. Alarazi doesn’t seem to be able to manage virtually any weight, and has had success across multiple racing formats. He’s up for another Cheltenham Festival race, so may not make the final field, but if he does he looks like a good option at a nice price of 8/1 at William Hill.
3. Qaspal
Three wins from six starts over hurdles, including three in a row ahead of the 2011 Cheltenham Festival marks Qaspal out as an interesting option. He’s trading at 12/1 at William Hill and shouldn’t be unduly troubled by the 11-9 he’s been marked for if he takes part in this race.
2011 Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle Long Shots
You can take your pick with the long shots in this unpredictable race, but Whoops A Daisy is one you can’t ignore. With three wins from three starts over hurdles, he could well do enough to place or win in this race, and therefore offers good value at 14/1 at Ladbrokes.
