2011 Jewson Novices’ Chase Preview & Tips
2011 marks the first running of the Jewson Novices’ Chase. Formally registered as the Golden Miller Novices’ Chase, Jewson has taken over sponsorship of this event after relinquishing sponsorship of the Handicap Novices’ Chase traditionally associated with its branding.
2011 Jewson Novices’ Chase Race Favourites
1. Wishfull Thinking
Wishfull Thinking is the favourite to claim the inaugural Jewson Novices’ Chase. This horse rides into the 2011 Cheltenham Festival with two wins and a place from his last three races, with his last two races run at Cheltenham. Familiar with conditions and in decent form, he looks a good option for an each-way to nothing punt at best odds of 4/1 at William Hill.
2. Captain Chris
Captain Chris has never finished outside the top three in a chase, with a win and three places to show for his four outings over fences. He’s raced at Cheltenham before and recently came second on the Grade 1 Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase before winning a Grade 2 at Kempton. At best odds of 11/2 at Bet365 he offers decent each-way value.
3. Noble Prince
Noble Prince has two places and a win to show from three starts over fences. This German horse has done most of his racing in Ireland, where both his places were achieved in Grade 1 chases. He looks like a lively enough contender and a tempting each-way option at odds of 6/1 at Ladbrokes.
2011 Jewson Novices’ Chase Long Shots
There are several horses in decent form competing in this race, and the one offering the best value in terms of form compared to price is William’s Wishes. He comes to Cheltenham fresh off three wins in three novices’ chases, and at best odds of 40/1 at Ladbrokes offers some serious each-way value.

Looking at the number of form horses in this field, it’s obvious that this is anyone’s race. We’re going to keep our bets small for this race, and rather aim at getting a big return from a long shot.
