The Cheltenham Cross Country Course hosts the second of the Cheltenham Festival’s big handicaps as some quality entries depart on a 3 mile 7 furlong marathon over the Prestbury turf. The race will see Garde Champetre go for an incredible 4th Cross Country Handicap Chase win at the Cheltenham Festival.
1. Garde Champetre
Garde Champetre may have finished a disappointing 5th in the Cross Country Chase in 2010, however, backers are keeping the faith in 2011, with this entry trading as low as 7/2 at totesport. At this price he’s an open invitation for a low liability lay bet, and we can’t quite see him making it four wins in this handicap. However, with two places and win from his last three starts, he’s going to do his best to prove us wrong.
2. L’Ami
This veteran of forty five chases has taken twenty four places from these races, winning his backers close on a million quid in the process. He finished second in the Glenfarclas Handicap Chase in 2010, losing by under 3 lengths. Could 2011 be the year he scores at Cheltenham after having made it into the top four in so many Festival races? He definitely has the class to pull it off, and at a price of 13/2 at William Hill could be a solid each-way punt.
3. Sizing Australia
Sizing Australia finishes off the top three for the 2011 Glenfarclas Handicap Chase. In seventeen starts over fences, he’s placed seven times, winning only one of these races. He finished 11th in the same race last year, and wasn’t very impressive in his previous outing at the Cheltenham Festival. At a price of 8/1 he’s just in range of lay bet for punters willing to take on big liability bet on a horse who we can’t see coming home a winner.
The standout long shot in the 2011 Glenfarclas Handicap Chase is one Putney Bridge with three wins, two seconds and a third place from his last six starts, and six places from eleven starts over fences, he’s great value at odds of 25/1 at Bet365.
Our 2011 Glenfarclas Handicap Chase betting tip is to go with a lay bet on Garde Champetre at Betfair – the statistical odds of him taking his fourth win in this race are a lot longer than 4/1, and your money would be better spent with a look at L’Ami – probably the highest quality entry in the field.
