2011 David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle Preview & Tips
The David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle is penultimate race of day one at the 2011 Cheltenham Festival. All eyes will be in Quevaga in this race, as she looks to score her third consecutive Mares Hurdle victory at he Festival.
2011 David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle Race Favourites
1. Quevaga
Quevaga heads the betting for the 2011 David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle. The reigning champion has made this race her own, with victories in 2009 and 2010, and at the age of 7 could easily do it again in 2011. In 10 starts over hurdles she’s won six and placed in two, and with two wins beneath her belt heading into the Festival is in decent form to boot. William Hill tempts with best odds of 6/5 on this entry, who is an all or nothing option.
2. Sparky May
Sparky May looks like a worthy challenger to Quevaga, with four wins from four starts over hurdles. At 6 years old she’s still a bit inexperienced for us to determine whether she can beat a big field at Cheltenham, but she’s certainly worth a look at odds of 9/2 in a race paying to 4th place at William Hill.
3. Our Girl Salley
Irish raider, Our Girl Salley, has been making waves across the Irish Sea with three wins from three starts over hurdles. Like Sparky May she’s just 6 years of age but has finished outside the places just twice in 10 starts in her career. She’s going for odds of 10/1 at Betfred, and is easily the best value each-way punt in the top three. (Our Girl Salley is a late withdrawal from the race.)
