2011 Centenary Novices’ Handicap Chase Preview & Tips
The Jewson Novices’ Handicap Chase has undergone a facelift and a schedule change for the 2011 Cheltenham Festival. The race has been renamed in commemoration of the Festival’s centenary year, and moved to the end of the first day of racing, while Jewson has taken over sponsorship of a new race on day three of the meeting.
2011 Centenary Novices’ Handicap Chase Race Favourites
1. Quantitativeeasing
Quantitativeeasing heads the betting for the 2011 Centenary Novices’ Handicap Chase. Nicky Henderson’s entry has won two out of three starts over fences and comes into this race on the back of two consecutive wins. Recent form aside he looks like he may struggle with the 11-11 he’ll be carrying in Tuesday’s final race, and his price of 10/1 gives a good indication of how uncertain punters are that he’ll do the business.
2. Definity
Definity has won twice and placed once from four starts over fences, and is a highly experienced hurdler. He comes into this race on the back of a win in the John Smith’s Novices Chase, where he triumphed in a field with all of three entries. Some may like his prospects at odds of 12/1 at William Hill, but he could easily be lost in the crowd in this race.
3. Divers
Irish raider, Divers, has a win and a place from three starts over fences. His racing career has just started, and there’s little to suggest why he’s cracked the top three in the betting for this race. Once again, there’s nothing to suggest that this horse has anything special to offer punters.
2011 Centenary Novices’ Handicap Chase Long Shots
The long shots are the place to look for value in this race, and Nicky Henderson’s Kerada seems the best option in this department. He’s won three from three starts over fences, and the real question to be asked of him his whether he can handle the 11-11 that he’ll have to carry in this race. At a best price of 20/1 at Ladbrokes, he looks decent value in a race paying to 4th place.

In cavalry charges, it’s never a bad idea to back a spread of horses priced over 50/1 with each-way punts. However, we like the look of Kerada in this race, and will back him with a small each-way punt as our 2011 Centenary Novices’ Handicap Chase betting tip.
