Italy has consigned Scotland to the wooden spoon several times over recent seasons, beating the Scots in three of their last five Six Nations encounters. Italy achieved one of these wins at Murrayfield.

Scotland has been somewhat unlucky in the 2011 Six Nations, losing all four of its fixtures despite playing some good rugby. After some promising performances in the Autumn internationals, Scotland has failed to convert momentum into victories.
The Scots have, however, shown some good touches in recent matches, not least the brilliant Lamont try that nearly scuppered England’s Grand Slam ambitions. With their home support behind them, Scotland are going to be hard to beat.
Italy will, however, fancy its chances of beating the Scots after ending the title ambitions of reigning Six Nations champions, France, in Rome last weekend.
Italy’s victory over France is good reward for hard work and consistent improvements from an Italian team that was buried beneath a flood of tries at Twickenham last month. With renewed confidence, the Italian effort should make fascinating viewing.
